Check out NCIS on CBS Tuesday nite. David MacCallum, who played Ilya Kuriyakin on The Man From Uncle years ago, is the coroner: Dr. Mallard (aka “Ducky”) Reason I’m telling you this is that it is, first & foremost, a crackerjack of a show & David is an oboist in real life. I do indeed break from making reeds to catch these episodes, although during concert season my symphonic band rehearsals are on Tuesday, 7-10 PM. Darn.

I don’t watch TV while mauling reeds (no TV in practice room), but I do watch TV while scrapbooking (which is also hand- and knife-intensive). My daughter owns all the “Friends” episodes, which I really like so I watch them. I also hate to admit this, but I love “The Waltons”, and will watch that while scrapping too.

Sorry to hear about the Webers. I hope you are able to make it down to Provo anyway. Who am I gonna drink Scotch with otherwise???

I am sending you some staples on monday for the Bx reeds. Meanwhile, I just got a “Lucarelli” westwind shaper tip. I made 4 reeds on it, and they are “OK”. The shape is very (VERY) stable, with more color in the sound than the Mack shapes, but the Bx is better all around. Maybe I need a thinner gouge for the Lucarelli???. Meanwhile, I pumped out a few reeds using my Bx original. I have yet to find anyhting I like better. I ordersed some cane from Gilberts shaped on the Mack ++ tip. I havn’t tried it yet, bu titlooks promising. It’s funny, according t the micrometer, there isn’t much difference between this and the old Phieffer Mack tip, but it sure looks a whole lot wider to my eye. Have you ever used this ne?

Actually, no, I did play it before I sent it to you, cooper. I even tried to oil it, but soon realized I’d rather leave that to you. But it was clean, and apparently gathered all that dust either during shipping or in customs.
